Christmas cards are being sent around the nation featuring the artwork of local Deborah Heinz.
Heinz was a short-term rehabilitation patient at Life Care Center of Port St. Lucie during the facility’s Christmas card contest. Each year, the center’s parent company, Life Care Centers of America, invites residents in more than 200 nursing and rehab facilities to submit card designs, and one piece is chosen for each of the organization’s geographical divisions. A total of eight designs are printed and distributed to facilities and regional offices throughout Life Care.
Deborah Heinz’s colored pencil drawing of an angel is this year’s winner for Life Care’s centers in Florida. Heinz has always loved angels, and as a former hair stylist, she enjoys focusing on the details of faces and hair. She drew the card design in about an hour and used a smudging technique with a cotton swab to add effects to it.
“It felt awesome to win,” said Heinz. “I haven’t won an art contest since I was a little kid in school. I feel blessed – it’s very exciting.”
